Common Ground

TMHWA Board members are volunteers. Meet the current Board members 2016 / 2017:

Bill MacDonald, President

Bill MacDonaldI am another Australian 'boat person' having arrived in Australia in 1984. My family and I live outside of Hobart by the sea.

My goals for this association include working with the TasMen community to bring the ‘Common Ground’ men's program to Tasmania in 2015/16, to to strengthen and build our March Tasmanian Men's Gathering and to further develop our relationship with similar, other Australian organisations.
My career has been primarily in business and the commercial sector with an ongoing interests in travel, music, sea, kayaking and wholesome food.

Barry Fleming, Public Officer/Secretary/Treasurer

Well where to start?

I am 34 and live in Lewisham with my partner of four years. If you don't pick it when you first meet me, I'm orginally from Ireland and first arrived in Australia in 2010. I landed in to Hobart in 2012 to start a new job with no contacts or a place to live. After starting the new job two colleagues introduced me to TasMen's annual men's Gathering, the TMG, in 2013. This was a revelationary experience. It really helped me to start identify and developing the tools I needed to navigate  through some of the difficulties I was experiencing being away from my family, friends and community.

I joined the Board as a General Member at the 2014 AGM to learn more about TasMen, to contribute to the community and hopefully add some value where ever I can. My primary interest being to find a Men's Group and more widely seeing more men's groups form within the Tasmanian community. Since 2014 I have acted in the roles of Board Secretary and Treasurer as well as Public Officer. I have also contributed behind the scenes with the TMG, the recently introduced (2016) Tasmanian Common Ground program and the Hobart Open Men's Group.

My Career has focused on WHS and Risk & Compliance roles. In my down time I enjoy exploring this beautiful island, reading, cooking, walking as well as good food and good company.

TasMen Annual 2017 Check-In Day

The "Check In Day" is a great opportunity for men to meet, reconnect, recharge and celebrate the Winter Solstice (shortest day) we're a couple of days late :). This day is open to all TasMen men regardless of whether you attended TMG 2017 or not, so please feel free to share this invitation around.

It will be held in Campbell Town, Sunday 25th June, at the Girl Guides Hall. It will run from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm including lunch and teas / coffees. Keith Smith, our social secretary, has arranged this event and TasMen will provide the catering.

Whilst the day will be pretty informal, we will set up the space and provide the opportunity to do some work and have some fun.

It will be good, (how could it not be with all of you fella’s) plus a good, warming Winter lunch.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Your TasMen Working Committee (David, Reese, Gordon, Keith and Barry)
